Celebrating Happy Marriages, One Dance at a Time

happy marriages

Happy marriages are everywhere at Fred Astaire Dance Studios! We’re celebrating National Spouses Day by offering couples the chance to deepen their relationship by learning the lifelong art of ballroom dancing.

National Spouses Day is celebrated annually at the end of January. This special holiday encourages spouses to be grateful for the fulfillment and security provided in a happy marriage. Married couples live longer and have fewer strokes and heart attacks, according to research from Harvard Medical School. People in happy, long-term relationships are less likely to suffer from depression and report lower stress levels. Opting to mark National Spouses Day with dance lessons is an invaluable way to celebrate the health benefits of marriage while rekindling the romance in your relationship.

Fred Astaire Dance Studios offers private and group dance lessons at more than 170 studios worldwide. Each studio offers a warm, non-judgmental atmosphere designed to help you learn dance moves and have a great time. Fred Astaire Dance Studios offers instruction for all partner dances, including the waltz, tango, cha-cha and salsa, as well as country-western, swing and club dancing.

“Dancing With the Stars” is a dance competition television series that pairs celebrities with professional dancers. Throughout its long-running television tenure, the show has featured many couples who steam up the dance floor. Here are a few samples of dancers pairing romantic chemistry and intricate dance moves.

Nikki Bella, a former professional wrestler, and dancer Artem Chigvintsev dance the Viennese waltz to “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna. The Viennese waltz is a progressive and turning dance, which features some figures that are danced in place. The dizzying rotary dance is performed at about 180 beats per minute.

Paige VanZant, an Ultimate Fighter, and Sasha Farber dance the rumba to “Perfect (Stripped)” by “One Direction” in this clip. The rumba combines African and Caribbean dances and can be easily identified because dancers keep their torso erect while gently swaying their hips, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica. The rumba features two quick side steps and a slow forward step.

Country musician Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko perform a romantic waltz to “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande.

Spark chemistry and add romance to your marriage by learning how to cha-cha, waltz and rumba. Contact your local Fred Astaire Dance Studios location to learn how you can reconnect with your spouse on the dance floor.
