Dancing Helps People Through Social Distancing

Dancing helps people

As people around the world comply with new social distancing guidelines, many videos of folks turning to dance as a way to cope with isolation and raise spirits are going viral.

Stay-at-home orders to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus shuttered non-essential businesses in numerous states and put an end to professional sports, dining-in at restaurants, working out at the gym and going to the movies. Communities and individuals across the country are turning to dancing as a method to connect with people while complying with social distancing regulations.

Check out the people in this neighborhood in Austin, Texas, who hold a nightly neighborhood dance party to help relieve stress at the end of a long day at home.

Complying with social distancing guidelines means many grandparents are unable to visit their grandchildren. An 81-year-old Tennessee grandfather and his six-year-old granddaughter came up with a creative solution to spend time together. The pair participates in a daily dance-off from opposite sides of the street.

Age is just a number when it comes to dancing. Charles Franzke, a 97-year-old WWII veteran, headed out to the front porch of his Waukesha, Wisconsin, home to bust a move to Justin Timberlake’s hit song, “Can’t Stop the Feeling.”
