Add Spark to Marriage by Making Romantic Gestures

Romantic Gestures

If your spouse appreciated the flowers and chocolates you purchased on Valentine’s Day this year, Fred Astaire Dance Studios recommends ramping up your efforts at romantic gestures to keep the flame burning bright throughout the year.

During the hustle and bustle of daily life, married couples typically put their relationship on the back burner. Work, child care, and chores take center stage over romance. While you may go over the top for Valentine’s Day, there are small romantic gestures you can make on a regular basis to remind your spouse how much you love and appreciate them. Here are a few ways you can keep the romance alive, despite a busy schedule.

Dole out compliments. Everyone enjoys being complimented, especially when it is unexpected. Take a beat to admire your significant other’s appearance or a defining character trait. An unexpected compliment will brighten their day and give them a boost of energy.

Hold hands. Next time you are both watching your child’s soccer game or shopping for groceries, reach out and hold your spouse’s hand. Holding hands puts your love on display and will remind them of the early days in your relationship when hand-holding was a priority.

Tackle the chores. Doing the laundry or vacuuming the floor might not sound romantic, but taking a task off your spouse’s to-do list will be a welcome relief. Helping with chores provides a tangible way you can show your spouse that you value their efforts and care about them.

Let’s do lunch. Whether you are working at home or in the office, bringing your loved one lunch will warm their heart. Carving out time during the busy workday to eat a healthy meal can be challenging. Having lunch appear at your desk is food for the body and soul.

Prioritize date night. At the end of a long day wrangling kids and staring at spreadsheets, most couples simply want to Netflix and chill. Booking a special date night is a tried-and-true romantic gesture. Having something on the calendar will ensure it happens.

Fred Astaire recommends spending your next date night in each other’s arms, learning to dance at one of our local studios. We offer individual and group ballroom dancing lessons at our local studios. Commit to spending time as a couple while learning to cha-cha, waltz, and tango. As an added bonus, ballroom dancing is a low-impact, aerobic workout that helps improve flexibility and relieve stress.

If your spouse needs convincing to hit the dance floor, show him these sexy dance numbers by ballroom dancers on the BBC’s “Strictly Come Ballroom.”

Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice steam up the dance floor with their performance of the Argentine tango.
