Find Christmas Cheer by Dancing on Social Media

Families across the country are jumping on the TikTok bandwagon to break up the monotony of spending so much time at home and to form new traditions this holiday season.

This past year tested the mental fortitude of many families, as they worked together to tackle remote workplaces, virtual school and the cancellation of treasured family traditions. Americans turned to technology, like Zoom and Google Meet, to continue to work, learn and play. Luckily, there is no shortage of new online tricks and tools to occupy our attention while at home. Newly released movies are available to stream on our televisions, gyms are offering online workouts, and restaurants added new online ordering apps to speed up curbside pickup or delivery.

Fred Astaire Dance Studios was up to the technology challenge. They began offering online dance lessons as part of their Online Lesson Platform earlier this year. Understanding the mental health benefits of dancing to combat social isolation and provide routine prompted the dance studio franchisor to begin offering live-streaming lessons, as well as recorded lessons the entire family can enjoy. Dancing helps families relieve stress, stay healthy, and it’s a fun brain break. The health benefits of dancing abound for children. Research indicates dancing helps improve physical and cognitive development, emotional security, and social awareness, according to the National Dance Education Organization, a Silver Spring, Maryland-based nonprofit dedicated to advancing dance education in the arts.

Once you’ve learned some dances, share your skills on social media. TikTok, a popular social media app, became a hit sensation with families this year as a trend developed to learn special dances to share with people across the globe. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, TikTok’s American users more than doubled, to 100 million in August. The popular app had more than 700 million active users worldwide at the end of the summer. TikTok prides itself on using “cutting-edge technology” and “multi-layered defenses” to make it a safe space for families to enjoy.

Celebrity families hopped on the TikTok trend and contributed to the sensation that remains popular as the year stretches on. Check out these celebrity families getting groovy.
